Spent most of the day at the French Quarter and really enjoyed every minute despite the humidity. I have never sweated so much and not done a single thing.
The French Quarter is not like the movies but we saw so much. Mule drawn carriage rides, trollies, public hop on/hop off buses, people powered carts----just like in China. They are a hard liquor town, cigar smoking and anything you can think of to make a few bucks. Even pan handlers asking for help. Just like Bend.
Some blocks are rougher looking than others. Some smell like a combination of booze, cigars, barf and sewer. Others don't. When we first got started walking down the blocks, an employee through a bucket of water out on the sidewalk. She was rinsing off where someone had puked; our best guest.
On the up side, it was so fun to see everyone and everything. We were able to see several jazz bands; both outside playing and inside a bar. I am hoping to be able to download some video from my phone.
Parking was right by the water and there were several really, big ships coming in. Also , two old paddle boats. See pictures. Tomorrow.....Alabama.
Great memory!
